Kevin McCarthy was convicted of two counts of attempted murder in seperate incidents, one in 2010 at HMP Frankland and the other in 2016 at HMP Whitemoor.
On both occasions he had attempted to murder another prisoner in the same prison that he was in.
In 2010 Kevin McCarthy was convicted of the attempted murder of a fellow prisoner at Dovegate Prison, near Burton. He used a home made weapon consisting of a razor blade attached to a toothbrush to cut the prisoners throat causing an injury that narrowly missed his windpipe and vital arteries.
He inflicted a 6 inch wound that required 60 stitches.
Kevin McCarthy said he knew that the victim was in prison for 16 child rape charges and he ‘wanted to take his head off’.
In 2017 he was convicted for the attempted murder of another prisoner in HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire. He attacked him on 2 October 2016. For that offence he was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.
